director of photography

Melissa O’Brien was born in Dublin, Ireland, and lives in New York City.

She works extensively in both independent film and advertising. With a background in still photography and film editing, her eye for detail and nuanced lighting is uncompromising. Melissa’s quiet empathy with the people she shoots helps bring out their inner beauty. That skill combined with her own brand of classical composition, creates graphic, powerful images on film.

She has guest lectured at the Summer Workshop series for the International Center of Photography, and at La Fèmis in Paris.

Fine art projects have screened at Gavin Brown Gallery and MoMA events in New York. Her commercial clients include Canterbury Rugby, Nike, Verizon, Intel and WholeFoods Markets.

Melissa graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, and studied at the International Center of Photography and the School of Visual Arts in New York.
